The Michigan State Police say a suspect is now in custody for allegedly dowsing several patrol vehicles with gasoline, setting them on fire, and shooting at the empty vehicles at the Sault Ste. Marie State Police post early Wednesday morning.

According to a state police spokesperson, "After an extensive investigation and multiple tips, a suspect location was found on Riverside Road in Chippewa County."

After obtaining a search warrant, state troopers approached the 39-year-old Florida man's residence. He began firing gunshots at the State Police Emergency Support Team and they returned fire.

The suspect was injured during the confrontation and was transported to a MyMichigan Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. He remains in custody.

No officers were injured. The investigation is active and maximum charges are being sought.
