'Make it in Michigan' is an economic strategy supporting community revitalization projects. That includes three affordable housing projects in Detroit, Holland, and Hudsonville that the Michigan Economic Development Corporation says are expected to generate a capital investment of roughly $17 million.
In Hudsonville, it's the construction of Hudson Center II. Once a mixed-use, three-story building rising in what's been called the city's new downtown will house 22 market-rate residential units and a handful of commercial spaces. It's anticipated that the Hudson Center II project will generate a capital investment of $7.1 million and create 40 jobs.
The City of Hudsonville is providing tax abatements over the next 10-plus years totaling $950,000 along with an Ottawa County Brownfield Authority grant in the amount of $11,800.
In downtown Holland, plans for a vacant lot include the construction of a two-story, 6,000-square-foot building with commercial space on the ground floor, and five one-bedroom apartments above. The MEDC expects the project to generate a capital investment of $7.1 million and create 40 jobs.
A Build MI Community grant in the amount of $250,000 and a 10-year, $84,280 Neighborhood Enterprise Zone tax abatement support the project.
In Detroit, the historic Danish Brotherhood fraternal hall will be transformed into a new community center.
