The midterm elections are on Nov. 6

Off-year primary elections typically do not drive a big turnout among voters.

But Michigan election officials are hopeful people WILL exercise their right to vote today.

At an event in Berkley…Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson predicted Michiganders are equally likely to vote in-person or absentee during these primaries.

Benson says, “In elections like this we'll see probably 5050 But it varies from day to day, and from election to election we're always prepared for the high watermark of what we saw in 2020 When two-thirds of citizens voted early or absentee and a third voted on Election Day”

This year the Michigan Legislature approved several new election laws that make it easier to cast a ballot – including several days of early voting.

But those laws won’t take effect until next year’s primary elections.
