Come October… Canadian currency will no longer be accepted when crossing the Mackinac Bridge.

The Mackinac Bridge Authority says there are extra costs associated with exchanging the money…

MBA spokesman James Lake says about four thousand dollars of Canadian cash comes in each month.

They said, “So to put that in perspective, it's about 500 customers per month that would be using Canadian currency to pay the toll compared to, you know, maybe an average of about 300,000 crossings during the month.”

Canadian customers are encouraged to use credit or debit cards or exchange their money at banks in St. Ignace or Mackinaw City.

The new rules go into effect Oct. 1.
