Detroit is making more land available for marijuana businesses

Detroit is making more land available for marijuana businesses. City Council voted six to three to lower distance requirements for dispensaries… microbusinesses… and consumption lounges today.

Detroit City Council President Pro Tem James Tate drafted the ordinance. He says Detroiters overwhelmingly voted to legalize recreational cannabis in 2018… and the city should make it easier for entrepreneurs to get started.

Tate said, “What we have done is created a concept that has bucked the system around the country that has allowed residents in the city of Detroit to participate in an industry that has been very hostile to them in the past.”

Tate says of the 36 businesses currently allowed to sell marijuana in Detroit… 19 are owned by city residents. Detroit will open a second round for cannabis applications on August 1st.
