Three Michigan universities are working together as part of a new program to assist the U.S. military. They're researching ways to develop new, lighter. safer autonomous vehicles for the battlefield.
Michigan State University’s Composite Vehicle Research Center will be working on the five year project with researchers at the University of Michigan and Central Michigan University.
Mahmood Haq is the co-research leader of the initiative.
“We are serving the military folks and saving lives is our primary goal.” said Haq.
A U.S. Army Department official says the research should also produce technology advancements that will have uses in Michigan’s auto industry.
