More than 100,000 people in Michigan could lose access to Medicaid if they don’t submit their renewal information by the end of the month.
The federal government paused renewal requirements for three years during the COVID-19 emergency, but now people who receive the medical benefits have to prove their eligibility.
Megan Groen is the state’s Medicaid director. She says people should have received information about renewing their Medicaid. And she recommends people file for a renewal even if they think they’re no longer eligible.
“You know we’ll run that full eligibility, so I would really encourage them to return that paperwork, just to make sure that we get the comprehensive coverage that they deserve as a Michigander.” said Groen.
The state said it already renewed Medicaid enrollment for 103,000 people in the month of June. A total of around three million people will be up for renewal over the next year.
