Michigan Wildlife Council issues first ever top ten success stories

The Michigan Wildlife Council has issued its first ever top ten list of wildlife management success stories. This is the Council’s tenth anniversary.

It was formed to educate the public on wildlife management and how it's funded. Nick Buggia is on the council.

“Hunting and fishing license dollars are the majority of what goes to conservation efforts of both game and non-game species. So, everything from deer and turkeys to salamanders and butterflies and everything else." said Buggia.

The top ten list includes number one: Kirtland’s warbler, then moose, osprey, lake sturgeon, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, elk, muskellunge (or musky), wood duck, and the one non-native species on the list, pheasant.

The top ten list is being released now because it is Wildlife Conservation Month in Michigan.

Lester Graham reports for The Environment Report. He has reported on public policy, politics, and issues regarding race and gender inequity. He was previously with The Environment Report at Michigan Public from 1998-2010.
