Beer could become more common inside Michigan’s college football stadiums this upcoming season. That's because of legislation cleared for the governor's signature.
The bill would allow Michigan’s public universities to get liquor licenses for sporting events. Some critics have raised safety concerns over the prospect of more alcohol being available on college campuses.
Democratic Senator Sean McCann is the bill’s sponsor. He says the sales would be in a controlled environment.
“Servers would have to be trained and not overserve and selling beverages from a proper location. It’s not going to be out like a satellite service in a tailgate parking lot or something like that.” said McCann.
Most Big Ten universities already allow alcohol at athletic events. Some Michigan schools offer it in a limited capacity.
