Whitmer to create "chief growth officer" position in MEDC

Governor Gretchen Whitmer
Governor Gretchen Whitmer

Governor Gretchen Whitmer will create a “chief growth officer” position in her administration. She’s expected to make the announcement tomorrow at the Detroit Regional Chamber’s annual conference on Mackinac Island.

The last U.S. Census showed Michigan had the second-slowest population growth of all the states. Since then, census estimates also suggest Michigan suffered a net loss of people in 2021 and 2022.

The crowd applauded when Whitmer said new laws to ensure reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ rights will help make Michigan more attractive to younger people. “We’ve made a lot of progress in the state of Michigan. There’s a lot more good work to do.” said Whitmer.

An administration source confirmed the “chief growth officer” will be placed in the Michigan Economic Development Corporation."
