The community of Rogers City is one step closer to making a downtown expansion project a reality.
The Rogers City council recently approved a measure to pursue a state grant worth more than $2 million. If the city gets the grant, they'll need to match 10% of the cost.
City officials say this is the latest in a series of projects over the last several years to attract more developers and tourists to the northeast lower Michigan community.
Rogers City mayor Scott McLennan says the project will connect popular destinations in the city and change how much storm water runoff gets put into Lake Huron.
"It will tie in our harbor with our downtown. It will create green space. It will also take half a million gallons of stormwater runoff and put it into filtration," said McLennan.
McLennan says the city’s public marina will also be renovated as part of the project in an effort to attract more boaters to the community.
It’s unclear when the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will reach a decision on the grant.
