Those affected by PFAS contamination are pushing Michigan lawmakers for more action. But Colin Jackson reports, House legislation could take a few more weeks to be introduced.
PFAS are nicknamed “forever chemicals” for the time they take to break down. They’ve been linked to certain cancers. Past bills to limit their use and tighten penalties for polluters have stalled. Democratic Representative Laurie Pohutsky says, now that the party makeup of the state Legislature has changed those policies need more work before they’re reintroduced.
“Some folks who previously had sat on the sidelines now have really, really helpful information that should be added to those bills and that is great, we want well rounded bills that are going to accomplish what we need them to accomplish but that does create drafting delays.” said Pohutsky.
