Former House Speaker takes plea in bribery case

The former chair of Michigan’s Medical Marihuana Licensing Board is pleading guilty to federal bribery charges.

The FBI accuses Rick Johnson of accepting over $100,000 worth of bribes during his time as board chair from 2017 until 2019.

US Attorney Mark Totten says the investigation has been going on at least since December 2017.

“It has included the execution of multiple search warrants, the review of significant amounts of evidence, looking over a lot of digital evidence.” said Totten.

Three other defendants besides Johnson are also taking plea deals as part of the case.

Authorities are not discussing the full scope of the investigation but say the agreements each require full cooperation.
