The President of Lake Superior State University has handed in his resignation.

In an email to the Lake Superior State University community, Rodney Hanley said he’s stepping down as university president to pursue a “new and exciting opportunity.”

Hanley has been president of the university since July 2018.

The chair of the university’s board of trustees wished Hanely well in his future endeavors. He didn’t provide any more details about his resignation in his statement.

Lynn Gillette, one of the university provosts, has been appointed by the board of trustees to serve as the interim president.

The board said they’ll begin a national search for the university's next president immediately.

Hanley’s resignation takes effect June 29.
