The University of Michigan football stadium is shown in Ann Arbor, Mich., this summer. Health officials in Michigan say infections among university students account for over 60% of local infections.

Unionized graduate students employed at the University of Michigan plan to walk off the job tomorrow.

Members of the Graduate Employees Organization are pushing for a substantial pay increase, to what they describe as a “livable wage” for Ann Arbor.

University administrators are offering a far smaller pay hike.

Amir Fleischmann is a union spokesman.

“You shouldn’t have to be rich to be a grad student at UM.” said Fleishmann.

U of M officials say classes will continue with “substitute instructors and other means for delivering instruction.

U of M spokesman Rick Fitzgerald says U of M will continue to work toward reaching an agreement with the graduate employees.
