Wednesday’s historic ice storm brought down thousands of power lines. Utility officials say they’ve been prioritizing safety for customers before proceeding with power restoration.
Trevor Lauer is the President and C-O-O of D-T-E Electric.
Lauer says crews are moving methodically, “you have to make sure first that everything is dead and there is no electricity so they can do the restoration activities in a safe manner so that we can then heat the system back up or get the electricity flowing back for all of the customers.”
34-hundred people are in the field working on getting the lights back on. With more on the way from surrounding states.
An additional 100-thousand outages happened Thursday, while crews were able to get power restored to 150-thousand customers.
Lauer says critical care facilities, and schools are among the top priorities.
