Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson received the Presidential Citizens Medal Friday. She was one of twelve people honored during the White House’s commemoration of the January 6th Capitol riots. As part of the ceremony… President Biden recognized Benson’s work as the state’s top election official saying and others defended democracy when it was attacked two years ago.

“That’s what she did in 2020, when she oversaw a record number of Michiganders turn out to vote in that election, only to find an armed mob, an armed mob outside of her home on Christmas Eve.”

The Presidential Citizens Medal she received is the country’s second-highest civilian award.
