The Ferris State University Bulldogs are college football's NCAA Div. II national champions.
Ferris State defeated the Colorado School of Mines 41-14 on Saturday in McKinney, Texas. The victory marks the second straight season the Bulldogs have brought the championship trophy home to Big Rapids.
During the post-game press conference, head coach Tony Annese praised his defense for holding the nation’s number one offensive team to just 21 yards of total offense in the first half.
"We just fought hard," said Annese. "I just think, you know, it makes me emotional to think about, but our guys are so gritty. You know, we just fight so hard."
Bulldogs defensive end Caleb Murphy, who led the nation in sacks and tackles for loss, added that the Mines quarterback didn't through off their game plan.
"He likes to, you know, scramble, those types of things. The guys did a good job at tackling. You know, it was just as simple as that, you know. We’ve done it all year. We've prepared ourselves for this moment," said Murphy.
The Bulldog totaled 432 yards of offense against Orediggers and finished the season 14-1 overall. Over the past two seasons, the Ferris State Bulldogs football team have a combined record of 28-1.
