Michigan Public Radio Network’s Senior Capitol Correspondent Rick Pluta spoke Tuesday with the outgoing Congressman.

This moment would seem built for Michigan Congressman Fred Upton. He’s a center-right Republican who’s represented southwest Michigan for a solid three decades. Over that time, he’s built a reputation as an affable colleague and an effective deal-maker.

But Upton is calling it quits. His district evaporated with new lines after Michigan lost a seat in Congress.

Rick Pluta is the Capitol Bureau Chief for the Michigan Public Radio Network. He is heard daily on WCMU's Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
