The votes have been counted, but they’re still not official. County boards have begun the process of certifying the November election results.
County canvassing boards match up ballot applications with the number of votes cast. If the numbers match, the election is certified. Where there are discrepancies, they need to be cleared up. Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck says it’s an important safeguard to ensure the votes are accurately counted. The boards are made up of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats.
“It’s all under their supervision, that bipartisan team. They are the ones who sign off on that final official result.” said Roebuck.
The county boards’ deadline is November 22nd. The final certification step will be the November 28th meeting of the Michigan Board of State Canvassers.
