A transgender high school girl had to defend her use of the women’s bathroom at a school board meeting in Reed City. It happened the same night as a school board meeting in Grant where a student who painted a pro-LGBT mural was criticized by parents.

WCMU reporter Ben Jodway spoke to Big Rapids Pioneer reporter Olivia Fellows about the instance in Reed City, and whether it points towards a larger trend.

Ben Jodway is an intern, serving as a reporter for WCMU Public Media and the Pioneer in Big Rapids. He has covered Indigenous communities and political extremism in Michigan.
