SVSU welcomes George Grant Jr. as new President

Saginaw Valley State University has announced George Grant Jr. will be the university’s fifth President.

Grant is a native of Detroit and comes to SVSU after spending 24 years at Grand Valley State University. Currently, Grant is the chancellor at Pennsylvania State University-Berks.

While speaking at a press conference, Grant said his values align with the SVSU’s strategic plan.

"First among them is our physical health, mental health and safety of our university. Next is diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging will become part of the foundation and pillar of who we are," said Grant.

Grant was praised by the SVSU board of control for his ability to fundraise and develop new academic programs.

Grant will be the first person of color to serve as President of SVSU. He begins his tenure on December 1.
