Ingham County Health Department says COVID-19 Cases starting to level off

WCMU Public Radio

COVID-19 infections in Ingham County are leveling off. That’s according to data shared Tuesday by the Ingham County Health Department.

Despite a slight uptick in COVID-19 infections in the last few weeks, fewer deaths and cases of severe illness have been reported in Ingham County. But Health Officer Linda Vail says COVID is not going away.

“We're going to continue to have COVID and COVID is going to become endemic.”

Endemic is a term used to describe a disease that does not cause large outbreaks but is still present among the population.

Vail says more than 75% of Ingham County residents 16 and older have received at least one shot of the vaccine.

The health department has held regular media briefings to update the public since the start of the pandemic. Tuesday’s briefing was the last one.
