Anti-Semitic incidents more than doubled in Michigan in 2021, compared to the year before.

That's according to an audit by the Anti-Defamation League. The incidents include harassment, vandalism, and assault.

Carolyn Normandin is the regional director for the group's Michigan branch.

She says the pandemic made more people afraid, and that's part of the reason for the rise in acts of anti-Semitism.

But she says people need to fight the trend, so it doesn't become normalized.

"People see it so much that they say oh, well, we've seen this before and you know, this is part of our world. Hateful incidents should not be a part of our world and that starts withstanding up."

Anti-Muslim incidents also rose last year, both nationally and in Michigan, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
