Some cities can net thousands of signatures for petitions. Baldwin will only get hundreds. But that isn’t stopping Mary Minnick.
Any signature matters to her, she said. It doesn't matter where she gathers them.
"Because I live here. Because I take a stand. Because I don’t worry about how many people are in my county," she said. "I could be in Detroit and going house-to-house rather than being in Idlewild. Each signature is not any different than the other."
She’s petitioning in Lake County to garner local attention and preserve her daughters’ rights, Minnick said.
“They have destroyed futures. Our children have less rights now than they did yesterday, and that sickens me," she said. "So I get up every day and I gather these petition signs, because that’s something I can control—I can do—I can make a difference.”
She expects double the number of signatures in Michigan than what’s required, Minnick said.
