Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig made his write-in campaign for the GOP nomination for Michigan governor official today.
A tough road likely awaits Craig as write-in campaigns can become expensive, and fundraising could be a challenge.
Craig says he's aware of the setbacks he's facing. "There's still a possibility that we will generate donors but not to the level. I mean, I'm just realistic. I mean, given the dynamics of being taken off the ballot and the fact that now it's a write-in. That is a challenge," he says.
The former chief missed his chance to get on the primary ballot last month when officials found evidence of signature fraud in his nominating petition.
He's now suing a handful of people he says were involved.
