Severe thunderstorms with high winds tonight could give way to another weather hazard in mid-Michigan later this week.

In a statement, Consumers Energy says crews are being prepared in case of power outages tonight.

Temperatures in Greater Lansing are expected to climb into the 90s Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

But, as Bob Dukesherer of the National Weather Service explains, the heat index will be much higher.

“That combines both the heat and the humidity, and so it'll feel like over 100.”

He advises staying inside with air conditioning during the day, which could mean heading to a mall or library.

More thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon.
