A meeting being held tonight by East Lasing’s Police Oversight commission after officer-involved shooting

East Lasing’s Police Oversight commission is hosting a meeting tonight after an officer-involved shooting left a man hospitalized earlier this week.

Thus far, the East Lansing Police Department has released limited information about the Monday night incident which has been referred to Michigan State Police for an ongoing investigation.

An ELPD statement says officers responded to a call about a man with a gun at a Meijer grocery store. The Monday night statement indicates that, after police chased a man who matched the description, shots were fired, although the statement doesn’t make clear who fired the shots. The man was in stable condition, the department said, while two officers involved with the incident are on paid administrative leave.

An MSP spokesman says the investigation will be thorough, but declined to give further information while the inquiry is ongoing.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 at the Hannah Community Center will include a briefing from the city’s police chief and an opportunity for public comment.
