A hotel owner in Mackinaw City is being accused of unlawful business practices.

In a letter to the owners on Tuesday, the Michigan Attorney General’s office announced it’s investigating hotels owned by the Lieghio family.

Last year, a viral video circulated of a family member yelling at a customer at one of their hotels.

“Stop being an idiot, and start thinking with your mind, ok? Stop being a democrat– a dumb democrat– and go to your room, pack your stuff and leave.”

However, the allegations are not related to that incident.

These claims revolve around things like false advertising.

“First off, consumer complaints where customers book rooms at one hotel that says, yeah, it has availability. And they get a confirmation, and then they arrive at the hotel they’ve booked and it’s closed. There’s a sign on the door redirecting them to another hotel that’s open. And then this is a bit of an oversimplification but there’s basically this tussle over not getting what they paid for at the hotel and then being refused a refund.”

The AG’s office could sue the hotel owners, conduct a formal investigation, or reach an agreement with the family.
