Michigan Congresswoman, Rashida Tlaib, comments on President's State of the Union Address

President Biden said during last night’s (Tuesday) State of the Union address, that the nation is stronger now than a year ago.

But one Michigan Congresswoman says the U.S. would be even stronger, if Biden’s Build Back Better agenda had not stalled in Congress.

Detroit Democrat Rashida Tlaib spoke on behalf of the Working Families Party. She called for voters to bring a new wave of progressives to Capitol Hill.

“No one fought harder for President Biden’s agenda than progressives, and we even played hardball in Congress. But two forces stood in the way. A Republican party that serves only the rich and the powerful and just enough corporate-backed obstructionist Democrats to help them succeed.”

Biden vows to resurrect some of his social agenda in a new form.

But Tlaib claims the president could enact some portions of it on his own right now.

She says that includes cancelling federal student loan debt, re-calculating the poverty line, making more people eligible for federal benefits, and taking action to break up pharmaceutical monopolies.
