Governor Gretchen Whitmer will roll out her budget proposal this week for the state’s next fiscal year.
Early reports say Whitmer’s fourth budget proposal includes more money for classrooms and for student mental health services.
Also, bonuses for police officers, firefighters, corrections officers and other first responders.
And Whitmer will reportedly call for channeling one-billion-dollars to roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
The state is sitting on billions of dollars in surplus tax revenue as well billions of dollars in federal pandemic recovery funds.
Republican leaders have said they’d like to see some of that money go toward tax cuts.
