This week prosecutors seek a rare trial for the parents of a teen accused of shooting and killing four students at Oxford High School.

But defense attorneys representing James and Jennifer Crumbley want the preliminary exam postponed.

Prosecutors plan to extensively outline why they took the unusual step of charging James and Jennifer Crumbley with involuntary manslaughter, accusing them of gross negligence for not keeping a gun away from their son and ignoring signs he could become violent.

But the Crumbleys attorneys say they’ll ask to delay the exam before it even begins.

They argue prosecutors gave the defense a very short time to examine the evidence involved, including tens of thousands of pages of texts and social media messages, as well as 30 potential witnesses.

Prosecutors disagree and add that they object to the Crumbleys mouthing “I love you” to each other during the hearings in the courtroom, claiming it is further traumatizing the victims’ families.
