The Lansing City Council is screening candidates on Monday night to replace an east side representative.
Ward 1 representative Brandon Betz left a vacancy when he abruptly resigned earlier this month.
Now, the rest of City Council must pick someone to fill the seat for the rest of the year. As Council President Adam Hussain explains, the group plans to interview eleven contenders during a public meeting Monday.
“We’re going to actually interview them in alphabetical order by their last name so there doesn’t seem to be any, you know, favoritism or impropriety.”
Three candidates will advance to longer interviews Tuesday before the council votes on a final pick later that night.
Betz had two years left in a four-year term. An election in November will determine who fills his seat in 2023.
