Across Michigan, events are planned for Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol building.
Hundreds of people, including more than a dozen from Michigan, are facing criminal charges for their role in storming the capitol building.
Allison Wilcox is helping to organize an event in Midland to mark the anniversary. She says it’s important to stand against “the Big Lie” that the 20-20 presidential election was stolen.
“We need more people to believe that so that they can say ‘OK, we’re going to move forward together as a country.’ We’re not going to fight about who won anymore because there are important things that need to be done.”
Wilcox remains concerned that political violence and instability continue to put American democracy in a ‘precarious’ position.
