Jackson County commissioners condemn mask, vaccine mandates.

Jackson County commissioners are condemning mask and COVID-19 vaccine requirements as part of a resolution approved this week.

But it appears the vote will not cause any immediate changes.

The resolution says Jackson County won’t enforce COVID mandates that commissioners call unconstitutional. However, there is no statewide mask mandate currently in effect. Jackson County’s health department isn’t requiring masks either.

Democrat Daniel Mahoney was one of two commissioners opposing the resolution. He calls the vote an overreach.

“I just think it's an unnecessary resolution for something that's not in consideration right now.”

The commissioner who introduced the county’s resolution says it does not stop school districts from implementing their own mask mandates.
