Republican state Representative Ryan Berman has announced his candidacy for Attorney General.

Berman says he agrees with some positions taken by current Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel.

But he says she strays too much into policy-making.

He cites her lawsuit to shut down Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac.

“But not only shut down the current line 5 because she thinks it poses risks, but stop the building of a new tunnel and just shutting it down which is really disastrous for our economy.”

A statement from Nessel's re-election campaign says she has met her previous campaign promises. One of those promises was to try to shut down line 5.

The statement says voters won't want to turn back the clock to when the Attorney General's office shielded special interests and partisan priorities.
