State health officials concerned about drop-in rate of routine childhood vaccines

Michigan health officials are ringing the alarm over a drop in routine childhood vaccination rates during the pandemic.

70% is generally considered the desired vaccination rate.

But according to June data from the state, over half of Michigan counties were under 70% for childhood vaccinations.

In seven counties and the city of Detroit, the rate is below 60%.

Veronica McNally is the founder of I-Vaccinate. It's an organization dedicated to vaccine information.

She lost her baby to whooping cough in 2012.

This means in addition to being at risk for COVID-19, our children are susceptible to diseases like measles, chicken pox, pertussis and more.

State officials are urging parents to get their kids up to date before school starts.
