Senators passed the infrastructure bill on Tuesday after months of bipartisan negotiations.

The federal infrastructure bill now goes to the U.S. House, where there is some support for going bigger than the one-trillion-dollar proposal.

The reaction in Michigan is mixed.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer praised the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Both of Michigan’s US senators supported it. They say it will go a long way to help with everything from dam improvements to more electric vehicle charging stations.

But Mike Nystrom with the Michigan Infrastructure Association says when you divide that money between all the states and all the needs, it’s not really that much.

“There’s a lot of good that’s going to come out of this, but when you hear those huge dollars, you think a lot of everything is going to be fixed, and that’s just not the case here.”

Some members of Michigan’s House delegation are calling for more money.

Governor Whitmer has proposed a state gas tax increase, but she’s been turned down by the Legislature’s GOP leaders.
