General Motors plant in Delta Township to idle another week

General Motors's Delta Township Assembly Plant will be closed for an additional week, as the company adjusts to a parts shortage.

In a statement, GM confirmed that the global semiconductor shortage has continued to plague production. The automaker said its purchasing, supply chain, engineering and manufacturing teams “continue to find creative solutions and make strides … to minimize the impact.”

The statement said GM expects supply constraints related to COVID-19 to be a short-term issue.

The plant in Delta Township and facilities in Tennessee and Mexico have been shut down since July 19. They had been slated to reopen next Monday but will now have an extra week of down time. The Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave are assembled at the Delta plant.

Flint Assembly is now scheduled to resume full production on August 2. The plant builds the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks.
