Ground broke today on a new 51,000 square foot facility in Madison Square. The company, MCPc, is set to enter the area in 2022, after signing an agreement with a community revitalization group last April.

For nearly two decades, 1601 Madison, has sat vacant in the heart of Cottage Grove. Now a new chapter begins its story in the space.

MCPc, a technology logistics, data security management company, broke ground Wednesday on a new 51,000 square foot facility. The relocation will bring 75-100 new and existing jobs to the area, with a specific focus on neighborhood hiring.

The company signed its lease agreement last April with AmplifyGR a non-profit focused in the Boston Square, Madison Square and Cottage Grove neighborhoods, seeking to amplify the area and widen pathways of opportunity for its community members.

Burl McLiechey is a 60-year resident in the area. He says the neighborhood used to be a thriving business community with “deep roots in diversity” but over the years, disinvestment made it feel like people were forgotten. In a statement discussing the groundbreaking McLichey says “I see it growing again, brightening up and becoming stronger as we rebuild it.”

Rockford Construction will lead the transformation of the site and says 30% of the project budget will be dedicated to hiring underrepresented local trade partners.

MCPc is set to open its Madison Square location in mid-2022.
