MI Senate GOP wants to know when Gov. Whitmer leaves the state

Michigan Senate Republicans want to know when Governor Gretchen Whitmer leaves the state.

In a 20-to-16 party line vote, GOP senators passed a bill that would require the Lieutenant Governor to make a good-faith effort to let the legislature know when the Governor isn’t in Michigan.

Whitmer has drawn Republican criticism for taking a trip Florida to see her father in March.

Democratic Senator Curtis Hertel voted no on the measure saying the GOP's objection to the trip is the real reason for this legislation.

“We are now passing legislation on what notes need to be passed between the governor and the legislature. It seems relatively silly. If you are wondering where the governor lives, it's in a space rent free between the sponsors head.”

Republicans say they just want to know who to go to should an emergency arise.

Whitmer is expected to veto the bill, if it reaches her desk.
