Viral video shows Mackinaw City hotel worker insulting guest

Jennifer Beila

The owner of a Mackinaw City hotel says an employee who berated a guest has been suspended without pay.

In a now viral video from a Facebook post by Jennifer Beila, a worker at the Crown Choice Inn & Suites is seen insulting Beila, who was reporting a water leak.

Earlier this spring, Jennifer Beila was on a trip with her friend and their five kids. They were staying at the Crown Choice Inn & Suites when she says they awoke to the sound of rushing water in their bathroom; she went to the front desk for help.

When Beila reported the incident to the desk and asked for assistance, the worker called the guest a “dumb democrat” and “idiot”.

“You rented the room," he said. "It’s your room, m’am, you’re responsible for that room. Stop being an idiot, and start thinking with your mind, ok? Stop being a democrat, a dumb democrat, and go to your room, pack your stuff and leave".

Beila says she was forced to find another hotel in Gaylord.

The owners of the Crown Choice say the employee has been suspended without pay and that they have apologized to Beila, but they haven’t decided yet if he’ll be fired.

Angry callers have flooded Mackinaw City as a result of the video, which comes as the city prepares for tourists this holiday weekend.
