Michigan lifts restrictions on requirements for working remotely

Office work is back in Michigan. The state has officially lifted its requirement for remote work.

Now that more than half of Michigan’s residents age 16 and up have had a least one shot of a COVID vaccine, the state says it will no longer require companies to have their employees work remotely when possible.

Susan Corbin is head of the state’s department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. She says many workers will still be hesitant to return to the office, and many haven’t figured out child care.

”And so really until this fall when schools are back more full-time and when our capacity of child care increases, we know that that’s going to be a struggle for a lot of Michigan households.”

Corbin says workers who want to remain remote will have to talk to their employer about it.
