Lawmakers and leaders of the faith-based Poor People’s Campaign are set to introduce a sweeping new resolution to end poverty in the United States this week.Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib of Detroit supports the effort. She says the situation is critical in her district.

“We don't have another hour. We don't have another day. We don't have another month. And so I'm hoping with this resolution that we can move with that sense of urgency, because really, truly our residents can't wait.”

A recent study by the non-profit ‘Detroit Future City’ found that the median income in the city was half that of the rest of Southeast Michigan.

The Poor People’s Campaign is calling for the creation of a federal jobs program, less military spending, and higher taxes on the wealthy.
