For the second time in two days, Detroit Police have shot and killed a man.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says the man was suffering from some sort of mental issue and was armed with a knife when officers arrived at a location on the city's east side.

“As the officers got there they were doing everything they could to remove the weapon from the individual. As they were doing that the suspect began to stab our officer several times in the leg. A partner fearing for that officer’s safety fired several rounds.”

One officer suffered stab wounds to the leg and a gunshot wound to the hand – a result of friendly fire from the other officer. As of Tuesday evening, the officer was in stable condition.

Early Monday morning, Detroit police shot and killed a man who they say instigated a police chase and gun battle.
