Benson slams GOP election package

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson today (THU) slammed a Republican package of election bills.

Hearings are expected to begin soon on 39 bills – including measures to require a photo ID to vote in person, or to get a mail-in ballot.

Benson said the bills are aimed at problems that don’t exist, but would tamp down voter participation.

Benson said what’s happening in Michigan is also taking place in other states.

“Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Iowa, Wyoming," said Benson. "Soon, Ohio. We’re seeing the exact same bills, exact same language.”

A GOP-led petition campaign is also in the works to initiate a law that could not be vetoed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
