Jackson field hosts golf event

A unique four-day event began today (THURSDAY) at Jackson Field in Lansing, home of the Lansing Lugnuts baseball team.

Instead of the crack of the bat on a baseball, it was the sound of golf clubs striking golf balls on the makeshift course laid out inside the stadium. Golfers teed up from the concourse and hit three shots at nine holes painted on the grass. Points were awarded for getting the ball to the field, onto the green, and even for a hole in one.

Marcus Smith from Lansing has a job with the Lugnuts and wanted to see what the so-called Grand River Country Club looked like.

“How you turn a baseball field into a golf course? It turned out pretty nice, I’d say,” said Smith.

The Lugnuts say some tee times remain through the weekend.
