Whitmer denies accusations of covering up COVID-19 nursing home deaths

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is denying accusations by Republican legislators that she tried to cover up COVID-19 deaths at Michigan nursing homes.

Speaking today, Whitmer says the state’s plan stayed faithful to guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We've had such fidelity to following the CDC guidance and making sure that we're sharing information,” said Whitmer.

The New York Attorney General’s office found that Governor Andrew Cuomo intentionally undercounted nursing home deaths. Whitmer says that was not the case in Michigan.

“We've been transparent about our numbers we have followed the guidelines we have shared the data widely,” says Whitmer.

Calling complaints by GOP lawmakers a “political attack”, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says she will not investigate the Whitmer’s Administration nursing home policies.
