Governor Gretchen Whitmer said Michigan’s National Guard won’t be staying in Washington D.C. once their deployment ends on March 12th.

The one thousand guard members were deployed after the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

Whitmer said reports of undercooked and inedible meals given to the guard members were concerning, especially given the service they were providing.

"I do not have any intention of agreeing to an extension of this deployment. I think that our brave men and women who have served in the guard have been called on in unprecedented ways over the last 12 months."

Whitmer said she was glad to hear that the quality of the food improved, even though it took a while to solve.

She also thanked the National Guard for its help evacuating people in Midland after historic floods and administering COVID-19 tests.
