A longtime top aide to state Senate Republicans is leaving for a new job in Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel's office.
In a surprising move, Amber McCann has accepted a position as special projects director in the Department of Attorney General.
She's been deputy chief of staff and press secretary for Republican Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey. She served as spokesperson for the two previous Senate Republican leaders.
McCann didn't respond immediately to a question about why she's leaving.
Her job change comes one week after Shirkey doubled down on false claims about the election and the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol.
Nessel's spokesperson said quote McCann brings a phenomenal skill set to the table and we are eager to work with her.
